Perfecting Agile 09 Aditya Yadav Phaneesh Nagaraja eBook
This was the first ever book that I have read on Agile. And much to my relief I was actually able to understand Agile. My misconceptions of Agile were blown away. I always thought about Agile only in-terms of sprints and used to wonder how could one keep on sprinting week after week, month after month... doesn't it become tiring. I used to think that Agile is just another process which is no different than the regular run-of-the-mill stuff. It is a good and a sustained effort by the author to create awareness of Agile. It is in a easy to read, conversation style text which appealed to me as it felt personal. The book starts by quoting the Agile Values and Principles that creates a good foundation. His appeal to start Agilification of a company through the route of extreme programming is sound advice as it serves as a good foundation to build the culture of a company. And as Alan Mullaly, CEO of Ford said "Culture eats process for lunch"...Agile promotes creating a bottom up organization and frowns treating people as "resources". The Agile Culture section is a no-nonsense and practical view I guess based on the authors experiences, I liked that section especially the part of treating the employee as a responsible individual. However the book is a bit raw in form (as indicated by the author) and would need some more iterations and increments (already using Agile jargons) in terms of language, layout and organization of content to get it in to perfect shape.
In all an excellent handbook for anyone who is getting initiated in to Agile and possibly also for experienced Agilists who would benefit from the authors experiences
